FIGURE IN WATERCOLOR
Charles Reid
Course Description
Students in this workshop will paint from the model for three days and from historical photographs of early days in Jackson Hole for two days. Mr. Reid will demonstrate each morning and the students will paint each afternoon, with help from Charles as needed. The main goal of the class is to learn to simplify and avoid overworking, along with developing edge control and learning to paint with fresh color. A painting will start with contour drawing, concentrating on interconnecting shapes rather than individual isolated objects. Next will come direct painting, using as few overwashes as possible. Aiming for good paint consistency (the correct ratio of water and paint when the brush is loaded), the hope will be to achieve correct color, edge variety, and tonal value on the first try.
