Course Description
This workshop involves the exploration of encaustic, one of the most exciting and versatile mediums available to the contemporary artist. With an emphasis on mixed-media, the basics are covered as well as a variety of advanced techniques. In addition to encaustic, participants will also explore the mark-making possibilities of branding, rust printing and composting and are encouraged to respond to these marks utilizing encaustic as well as other media. Participants are encouraged to develop a personal vocabulary by applying these new techniques to their current ideas and methodologies.
Instructor
Lorraine Glessner has an MFA in Fibers from Temple University Tyler School of Art, a BS in Textile Design from Philadelphia University, and an Associate Degree in Computer Graphics from Moore College of Art and Design. Recent awards include a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Artist Fellowship and Anne K. Allison Award. Recent exhibitions include a Solo Show at St. Asaph’s Gallery, Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania; Fiberart International, Pittsburgh; and New Faces Juried Exhibition, Philadelphia. Her work is included in Mixed Media Collage by Hollie Harrison, and the September 2007 issue of Fiberarts Magazine. An Assistant Professor, Fibers, at Tyler School of Art, she lives in Philadelphia.
